Puerto Rico is one of my favorite places that I've ever visited. It is amazing if you want to get the island life, but you don't have a passport. American citizens can travel to Puerto Rico because it is a United States territory. This means that you only need to have your driver's license or another form of citizenship.
I've been to Puerto Rico twice, once by plane and once by cruise ship; you can check out my cruise ship blog here.
Lodging
There are so many options for places to stay in Puerto Rico. You can choose to stay in old San Juan where there are beautiful buildings and streets. Or you can choose the more lavish lifestyle and get a hotel right on the beach. When I stayed, it was at the intercontinental hotel. It was extremely nice because there were so many pools and if you wanted to lay on the beach, they had umbrellas and chairs. Honestly, any beachfront hotel would do if that is the vibe you're going for.
Excursions
There are so many things to do in Puerto Rico, and here are some of my favorites that I got to do while there.
The ATV adventure is extremely fun, and many companies do this. You get to drive through mountains and mangroves and visit some lagoons. It's just a fun outdoor adventure to get into with your friends. I will suggest; however, you bring a scarf or something to put around your face and bring sunglasses because there is a lot of dust. Especially if you're riding behind someone, the dust will get kicked up at you, so you want to make sure you're protecting your face.
The zip line adventure is something you should check out if you've never been zip lining before. It was so much fun, and you got to see San Juan from new heights. The tour is about four hours long. You don't need to bring anything, and they will even come to get you from your hotel. It is also amazing to explore the national rainforest because I didn't even know they had a rainforest before visiting Puerto Rico.
The Jet Ski tour is exciting; it's a 90-minute ride. You can ride with a friend on the Jet Ski, and honestly, who doesn't love going on a Jet Ski. You go through mangrove canals and along the coast, and you can ride through some ocean waves. It is honestly so much fun and worth checking out.
This tour is an amazing way to see Puerto Rico. The van holds up to five people. The driver will take you around on a sightseeing tour, and they pick you up at your hotel and even drop you off wherever you please if it is not your hotel. You get to see historical landmarks in the old city. If you are more into history, it is something you should check out.
There are many castles in Puerto Rico that you can tour. Some of them have amazing views and rich history. So if you are into learning a little more about the culture, these kinds of tours and excursions are perfect for you.
We booked all of our tours through our hotel at the front desk, but you could save some money by booking them online in advance of your trip.
Let me know if you have visited any of these places!
